Day Twenty-Two

The theme of my story would have too be if you are patient good things can come to you. This is the theme because the prince has to wait a while for his real princess to be found. He even takes things in his own matters, and uses his own time to search for her, but still fails to find her. So he had to be patient and let her find him. By him doing so he got a good thing in return. A beautiful Spanish Princess and he lived happily ever after.

The Prince had two sides to him. Very eager and willing to place himself above others, but at the same time gentle and willing to accept some things he didn't really want to. By having that side of accepting things he really didn't want to, he was able to accept that he had to wait for his real princess to come along.

Day Twenty-One

My opening sentence is going to be, "I am a prince why haven't I found the perfect princess for me?" I decided to open with a question since the story is about a prince searching for his real princess. It doesn't say he will never find the princess, it tells as if he has searched far and wide and can't seem to succeed at finding her. The reader should now be anxious to know if he will ever find his real princess.

The picture I will be placing on the first page will be that of a Spanish prince sitting alone. Than a smaller picture of many beautiful Spanish princesses. This will show how there are many princesses but yet the prince is still alone.

Day Twenty

I haven't quite thought about illustrations for my blurb book yet, but I figure I should start now. Since we have to have 15 pictures I think I will just get them all from the internet since I am not very skilled when it comes to drawing something. These are what my 15 pictures will consist of:
  • picture of a Spanish prince
  • picture of a Spanish queen
  • picture of a beautiful Spanish princess
  • 5 pictures of other Spanish princesses
  • picture of a 5 sombreros
  • picture of three red hot peppers
  • picture of a Spanish festival
  • picture of Spanish dancers
  • picture of a church
  • picture of a traditional American wedding
I think all these pictures suit my story well, because they all are a part of the story and help out with being able to imagine what the people, and the scenery of the story looks like.

Day Nineteen

I think so far my pastiche is looking pretty good. I however am lacking on information about the Spanish culture. I have made some changes in the story into the Spanish culture, but that is just not enough. I should interpret more of the culture into my story so that others can learn more about the culture like I did. Maybe I can start by talking more about the scenery in Barcelona, Spain, because right now the only thing my readers can conclude is that it is summer. This is because I told them the festival being held was held around the time of the Barcelona Summer Festival. Than I put the sombreros and red peppers, and spanish dancers, but there still seems to be something missing. Well whatever that piece is I will find it and add it into my pastiche. For now I would like comments on what you think my pastiche is missing. It will be very helpful!

Day Seventeen

I could not find a story quite similar to my original story by: Hans Christian Anderson, but I did find a similar story "Snow White," written by: The Brothers Grimm.

In this story a lovely young woman is demanded to dress and become a servant by her evil stepmother, because the step mother is jealous of Snow White's beauty. So everyday the evil stepmother goes to her mirror on the wall and asks it, "mirror mirror on the wall, whose the fairest of them all?" Every time the mirror answers in the stepmother's favor, but one day the mirror tells the stepmother Snow White is the fairest of them all. This infuriates the stepmother and she orders her huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. The huntsman take her into the forest but can not kill her, so they let her go free. Snow White than finds a cottage with ten dwarfs in it and they allow her too stay as long as she cooks, and cleans for them. Than one day the evil stepmother appears, but disguised, and gives Snow White an poisonous apple and Snow White eats it. She than faints and and the dwarfs find her thinking she is dead, and place her in a coffin. Later on a prince finds her and is attracted to her beauty, kisses her, she awakes, and they get married, and live happily ever after.

These stories are some what similar because they both tell of a beautiful woman, and a prince looking for his princess. The women may not have too do much to prove they are worthy for the prince, but they prove themselves anyways. Than in the end both women marry the princes, and go off to live happily ever after.

There are also some differences in these two stories. Probably more differences than there are, similarities, but this is what makes the two stories different.

Both stories morals are basically the same, "not all everyone is fit for a prince," or "if you are patient good things will come to you."

Day Sixteen

The three main characters of my story is the Prince who is named Prince Santo. Than the queen who is named Queen Sonia, and the real princess who is named Princess Marla. The prince has a strong, deep, and manly voice. While the queen has a low, voice. The real princess has a soft, and innocent voice.
Queen Sonia: "It's such a beautiful day today, huh Mijo?"
Prince Santo: "Si Mama, it is nice!"
Queen Sonia: "This was a wonderful day to have the fiesta!"
Prince Santo: "Yes I know! and a wonderful day to find my real princess."
Queen Sonia: "Oh yes mijo, it is!"
Prince Santo: "Hopefully she will appear in a lovely dress."
Queen Sonia: "Why is that?"
Prince Santo: "I thought princesses wore dresses on lovely days..is that not so? but because I love my woman in a dress."
Queen Sonia: "Haha! yes this is so! well maybe she will mijo, maybe she will!"

Day Fifteen

I have not yet presented my Pecha Kucha, but when I do I will come back and write about how it went.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Day Fourteen

My story begins with the festival that is being held before the "Barcelona Summer Festival." Here at the festival there will be a lot of events going on. Music performances, dancing, and the prince searching for his "real princess." The whole story will take place in two days, the day of the festival when the prince finds his princess. Than the next day when the two of them get married. Well anyways after the prince eventually finds his princess the people at the festival will hold a celebration. They will be celebrating the finding of the "real princess." After the celebration is over the prince and his princess will both go back too the palace will they will rest until the next day. Than the next day they will go too the chapel and have their traditional American wedding than ceremony. After that, the story ends with them living happily ever after.
That basically sums up the story, and since I summed it up I left out a few other details. Since this is a folk tale though it is not very long like an original story. My events will lead into each other excitement and reasoning. Even though this sounds short I have too add in a few more ideas, and details into my pastiche. Comments are still wanted!

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Day Thirteen

I am not exactly sure on what the message in the folktale is, but I think that it is not all princesses are fit for a king. The reason I would consider this too be the message they are trying too send is because the prince searches far and wide for the "real princess," but he can never seem to find her. Than one night when a princess appears at his door claiming she is a "real princess" they do not automatically believe her. The queen still tests her by placing the three peas under twenty mattresses, because she knows only a "real princess" can feel them. So when the princess feels the peas they are certain she is a "real princess." Not just any princess could have felt those three little peas under twenty mattresses.
Since my culture is Spanish the message didn't change much except for that the message is now going to be: Only a "real Spanish princess" is fit for a Spanish prince. This is because the culture is Spanish which means the characters will also be Spanish. That is why the queen chooses too place three red hot peppers under five sombreros, because these are familiar items to the Spanish culture. Also she knows that when you become a Spanish princess you have too know how too provide for you and your prince. It is not like a Dutch princess and prince were everything is handed down too you. So if you need to know how too cook you are going too have too know what hot red peppers are, right? Yes! So in the end a true Spanish princess choose the correct sombrero, married the prince, and they lived happily ever after!

Saturday, January 16, 2010

Day Twelve

I would classify my revised story of the "Real Princess" as a mixture between a fairy tale and a noodlehead folk tale. The reason I think it is a mixture between these two is because there are objects that are magical, and there is a happy ending just like in a fairy tale. Than I also think it is like a noodlehead folk tale because the main character the Prince continues to make the same mistake over and over again. The mistake he makes is by picking princesses that are not a "real princess." That is why his mother has to help him out by putting the 3 red hot peppers under 5 sombreros, because she knows only a "real princess" can pick out the correct hat from the rest.
Than for my culture I think it changes somewhat too, because it is Spanish and does Spanish things like holding festivals in Spain. Using red hot peppers and sombreros to distinguish the "real princess" from the rest. Also all the characters have Spanish names. Than at the end of the story the "real princess," and the prince have an traditional American wedding, and live happily ever after. So this a mixture of both the Spanish and American culture. Than the way all of this relates to my message is no matter if you are Spanish or American, in a fairy tale or a folk tale, not everyone is fit for a prince. That's just the way it is!

Friday, January 15, 2010

Day Eleven

In my original story they used the number three. They placed three peas under twenty mattresses. In my revised story I am also going to use the number three, but I am going too use three red hot peppers instead of three peas. I am also going too use the number five. This will be for the five sombreros that will be placed on the table, and the three red hot peppers will be placed under one of the five sombreros. The choosing of my numbers was just random. Well the five sombreros was, but the three red hot peppers was because there was three peas used in the story.
I feel that the choosing for my numbers is very signifacant because five sombreros are alot to choose from and only one of the sombreros has three peas placed under them. The princesses have too choose from the five sombreros, but choose the correct sombrero. The correct one has the three red hot peppers under it. If she chooses the correct sombrero she will be named a "real princess," and the prince will than marry her and they will live happily ever after.

Day Ten

By blogging everyday I have experienced the blogging life. This is something I really enjoy doing. The reason is because even though I like too write I don't like all the time it takes to write a paper, but by blogging on the internet I can type it and everything goes a lot smoother and quicker. If I had a choice I would choose to do all of my assignments like this. I am glad Mr. Prier choose this project for us.
Also I have a facebook so this was an advantage for me because when I post things on facebook it is basically the same thing as posting my blog on here. It is something I am good at! Also doing this blog helps me remember my homework, for some reason when we had too write papers I would sometimes forget my homework assignment. I am ready too continue writing my blogs everyday, and ending it off on a good note. This has been a wonderful experience!

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Day Nine

There is not a lot of magic used in my story, but you could consider the 3 peas as magic and the princess as magical because the 3 peas were placed under 20 mattresses and she still felt them. In reality if you put 3 peas under 20 mattresses you will most likely not be able too feel them. The reason is because peas are little and mattresses have a lot of cushion on them.
In my revised story the 3 red hot peppers are what's going to be magical. The reason is because even though they are only placed under one sombrero even if a princess picks the correct hat they will not appear if she is not a "real princess." So therefore I am also going to have the "real princess" be magical too, because she will be the only one who can see the 3 red hot peppers besides the queen and prince. This will be the only magic used in my story.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Day Eight

The reason I choose this picture was because it shows a picture of a wealthy prince. Than on the side of the prince are three faces of women. These women are too represent the princesses that claim too be a "real princess." These are just a few of the princesses that tried to prove themselves too the prince, but these are just a few that I decided to use. I think this picture fits my story well because it shows the main character the prince, and than 3 women who represent the princesses who are trying to prove that they truly are a "real princess."

Monday, January 11, 2010

Day Seven

My main character is Prince Santo.
These are his physical traits:
-He is not to short but not too small. Just in between.
-His hair is cut short and is wavy, and brown.
-He has a nice tan complexion.
-His eyes are like these cute sad big brown puppy dog eyes.
-He dresses to perfection. Clothes nice and pressed, shoes always shined, and also has great posture.
Personal History:
Education: He went through all of elementary, middle school, and high school. He than went to college and received a bachelor's degree.
-He is very bright!
Religion: Catholic
Family: He has always lived the good life. Everything has been handed too him. He has never had to work for anything. He is an only child and a very spoiled one at that considering he is the son to a king and queen. He has always had the fancy life and continues to have it.
-His childhood was great! Mother and father were both in the picture. They are very wealthy so money was never an issue for them. He had all the toys, and fun every kid wishes they could have. He was also treated right and loved very much.
Health: This is another topic that the Prince does not have an issue with. He is up to par on all of his medical needs. He is a very healthy young man.
Self-image: Since he is spoiled, a prince, and very wealthy he thinks highly of himself. He has a great self esteem, but at the same time he thinks of himself as if he is the greatest! If you are below him than you are nobody, you are worthless. This is not really a good thing.
Dreams: His dream is too seek his "Real Princess," marry her, move into his own home, and start a family of his on. He also dreams to inherit his parents fortune and just live life freely, and easily.
Fears: The Prince's biggest fear is for something to happen to his parents money and him not inherit anything. Even though he has a bachelor's degree, since everything has been handed down to him in his life he does not wish too work for anything.
Sense of Humor: He has a great sense of humor. He knows how to make people laugh, but at the same time now how to laugh himself, and enjoy life.
Ethical: Since he is spoiled and wealthy he is not the most polite person in the world. He may be able to make you laugh but at the same time he can really hurt your feelings. He is a caring person, but at a same time a person that is willing to speak whatever thats on his mind.

Day Six

In Spain they speak spanish and these are a few common words they would use.!
Hello-hola
Bye-Adios
Festival-el festival
Real-real
Fake-falso
The reason I choose these words because I know I will use them to an extent throughout my revised story.

Saturday, January 9, 2010

Day Five

In my story they do not have specific names. They just have names like queen, prince, and princess. So in my story I will give them each a real name.
-Queen: Queen Sonia(la reina)
-Prince: Prince Santo(el principe)
-Real Princess: Princess Maria(la princessa)
These are my characters in the story. I know it is only a few, but the story its self is short and does not involve that many characters. Also the words are in spanish because Spain is a spanish speaking country.

Friday, January 8, 2010

Day Four

In the original story "The Real Princess" the setting took place at the Prince's castle, and in the spare bedroom. The revised story will take place at a festival in which the prince will seek to find his "real princess". There will be a table where each princess will go to prove whether she is a real princess or not. It will be held during the summer time. Around the time of another festival that will be held which is called "Barcelona Summer Festival." This will be the main setting throughout the whole story.
I am not sure if this is the only setting I will use in the story. So far I think the whole story will occur at the festival. I have to continue thinking but please leave comments or ideas.

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Day Three

The Spanish culture is somewhat similar too the Mexican culture, but their are some differences. These are some of the components I will be using in my story that will reflect on the Spanish culture.
*Food: Their food is heavily influenced by seafood.
-poultry
-fish
-beef
-rice
-beans
-red peppers, green peppers, yellow peppers
-bread
-sweet Valencia oranges
-sausage
-ham
*Music: This would be the type of music they would have at a festival.
-Techno
-House
-Hip Hop
-Electronic
-IDM
*Clothing: This is the type of clothing they would wear in Barcelona, Spain.
-There are many different types of clothing that they would wear, but the company known most for making Spanish clothing is called Mango. I have not yet found what type of clothing they wear.
*Religion: There are not many religions practiced by the Spaniards. They do not practice in many different religions. Most are Catholic, others practice their own religion, and some do not practice any religion.
-Catholic
-No religion
*Holidays: They have a few national Spanish holidays that they perform.
-January 1st-New Year's
-date changes-Good Friday
-May 1st-Labor Day
-August 15th-Assumption of Mary
-October 12th-Hispanic Day
-November 1st-All Saints Day
-December 6th-Constitution Day
-December 8th-Immaculate Conception
-December 25th-Christmas Day
*Climate: Barcelona, Spain has a Mediterranean climate.
-humid winters
-warm, dry summers
-June, April, May, August, September, October, and November are the wettest months.
-February, March, June, and July are the driest months.
-Spring and autumn are considered the rainy seasons.
-Winter and summer are considered the dry seasons.
I will not use everything on this list in my story, but I will choose what I think will impact my story the most and will make it sound good.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Day Two

In the original story "The Real Princess" a prince was seeking a real princess, but could never find one. When suddenly a princess showed up at his door and claimed to be a real princess. The queen placed 3 peas under 20 mattresses, because she felt if the princess could feel the peas she was truly a real princess. When I revise the story I am going to have the princess show up at a festival that the prince has threw seeking his "Real Princess." I'm than going to have the queen place 3 red hot peppers under one sombrero, and the 3 red hot peppers can only be found by a "real spanish princess." Than she'll place 5 sombreros on a table and have the princess choose the sombrero she thinks has the 3 red hot peppers under it. If the princess does not find them it means she will not marry the prince. The reason for the red hot peppers and sombreros is because I will be changing my culture from Danish to Spanish.

The motif used in the story was the 3 peas. They were placed under the 20 mattresses than they were kept in the cabinet of curiosities where they were still to be used. My motif will be the 3 red hot peppers. At the festival they will be placed under one of the 5 sombreros, and each time a princess approaches the table too prove she is truly a "Real Princess" the queen will use them.

Main Characters:
*Prince
*Queen
*Princesses
*Real Princess

Day One

Hi! My name is Markaela Moore. I am going to be blogging about how I edited the story "The Real Princess" by: Hans Christian Anderson by changing the culture and a few minor things. The actual culture is Dutch, but I will be changing it to Spain. I will be converting some of the words into Spanish, and the Dutch princess into a Spanish princess. Each day I will write about the story and if you are already familiar with the story than you will recognize the changes I made to it. Even if you are not familiar with the story you will be able to know what I changed, because of the Spanish culture.
This should be a fun experience and I am really looking forward to blogging each day. I hope everyone will enjoy my story and will comment on it, and tell me how you feel. Even if you comment on how you think I need to change something or how you think I am on the right path. I will love all the feedback and I will take it all into consideration.
